Baking Supplies

I don’t know about you guys, but I loooove baking. I am constantly craving a sweet treat after my meals. Though there are a bunch of recipes out there, I find that it is a little bit trickier to find a healthy recipe that doesn’t taste like grass. Naturally, when I do find them, I put them on repeat. Ever so often, when I find myself wondering from the THM cookbook, I am stuck on the fact that the majority of the healthy dessert recipes out there use agave, honey or maple syrup as a sweetener. For someone who isn’t following the plan, this is a little bit less of a problem. However, for the true THM followers, this is some seriously sad news. I’m sure that you, too, have come across this issue and have therefore not been able to test the healthy dessert recipe waters. The answer to this problem is a little bottle of joy that has just recently been added to the Spooniful inventory: Nature’s Hollow Maple Syrup. This is a Xylitol sweetened syrup that will not spike your blood sugar! How exciting is that?

I thought I would put together a little shopping list for some of my fellow bakers. These are some products that I always have on hand to whip up healthy goodies. Obviously there a bunch more THM products that are used in THM recipes, but these ingredients work well in any given recipe that you might happen to stumble upon.

  2. Everland Organic Shredded Coconut
  3. Everland Organic Flaked Coconut

Product Review: THM Orange Silk Hydrating Cream

I don’t know about you guys, but I didn’t take very good care of my skin when I was younger. I rarely wore sunscreen, sometimes slept with makeup on… the whole deal. When I reached my 20’s I started caring less and less about having a tan and more about the health of my skin, since you know, it is the body’s largest organ! However, we all know how expensive skin products can be and how hard it can be to find products that aren’t packed with toxic waste. I would not call myself a product snob, because my skin is not the sensitive type, nor would I say it is oily or dry. What I do know is that my skin does not appreciate a heavy moisturizer, or an abrasive exfoliant. That is exactly what this hydrating cream is not! First off, the minute you remove the cap you get a waft of what smells like an orange Creamsicle. Now, not only do you want to moisturize your face, but you also kind of want to eat the orange cream. It kind of reminds me of the time when I was young and used to eat Lip Smackers because they smelled so dang delicious…did anyone else do that or was that just me and my little brothers? Anyways, the cream is wonderful and leaves your skin feeling moisturized without the heavy grease that some products leave behind. The list of ingredients is not a mile long. In fact, I can list them off for you all right now; Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera Gel, Beeswax, Calendula, Plantain, St John’s Wort, Goldenseal, Myrrh Gum, Tea Tree Oil, Xanthan, Potassium Sorbate, Ascorbic Acid, Grapeseed Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Orange Essential Oil, Vitamin E. See? Only 18 ingredients AND it smells like a Creamsicle. How can one go wrong?

Freeze Dried Triple Berry Blend on Plan Snack

What do you think  of when you think of freeze dried fruit? I know what I used to think of. I thought of the the weird strawberries in Special K and the hiking food. There is no way I would ever purchase this stuff for a snack, and even if I wanted to, where would I go about purchasing it? My perspective on these freeze dried goodies has changed completely! I’ve been gobbling them up at home like mad. Even my dog likes them, though she’s a pug and pretty well enjoys anything that makes it’s way into her mouth. The great thing about these guys is that they keep in your pantry! I know what you’re thinking… Why would I buy freeze dried fruit when I can buy a dried fruit that I already know is delicious? The answer: unlike most dried fruit, freeze dried fruit does not have ANY added sugar. It packs almost as much nutrients as fresh fruit and is way lower in the forever daunting calorie count. Perfect for Trim Healthy Mama’s, Diabetics, or just anyone looking for a healthy and yummy snack. This Triple Berry Blend has my seal of approval!
